Default PVP Build questions for you vets out there

Hey everyone, I just registered and this is my first post. So, hello.

Anyways, I just read the sticky by Van Gogh's Ear about builds and realized that I know next to nothing about PVP builds and such.

I primarily play an E/Mo in PVE and I just tried some RA for the first time and got my ass kicked, coming to the realization that the nuker PVE build is useless against players, which is obvious.

My question is, how do I use an elementalist in a PVP situation? Whether I have to play TA or RA, I want to know how to set up an ele to kick ass and not die instantly like has been happening to me all night.

Thanks in advance!

in team arenas there are only a couple of ele builds they use there

Blinding Flash [E]
Air Attunement / Glyph of Lesser Energy
Gale
Envenerating Charge
Ward vs Melee
Ward vs Foes
Draw Conditions
Ressurection Signet

or

Fire Attunement
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Searing Flames [E]
Glowing Gaze
Ressurection Signet
[optional Slots]
Liquid Flame
Blinding Flash
Freezing Gust
Draw Conditions

learn either of those two builds and u can find play in TA as an ele

OBI SPIKE

lol, jk. Bsurge warders are a widely used character, learn to play that and you'll start to see what works and what doesn't work.

And a little bit more advice, don't limit yourself to a second class. Like when you said "I have an E/Mo" it was obvious you weren't lieing about the little pvp experience. Secondarys and builds can change on a dime. Don't even limit yourself to one profession IMO. If all you're doing is RA/TA learn to play a couple of professions so when somebody is looking for something, you'll have a better chance of getting some play.

Narow minded people can say "there are only 2 builds for TA", but there are many more. What you have to take into acount, while building your ele, are the following issues:
1. reducing damage, youre no good to anyone if youre dead. And certain builds can kill you very fast (sin, thumper, ... almost everybody, couse you come with weak armor). You can use earth/water/air line for that.
2. making damage. SF can do it (fire), obsidian can do it (earth), lightening can do it (air).
3. helping your team to reduce damage in order to win. blinding, gale (air), wards (earth) and slowing hex (water).
4. getting away (kiting). there are many speed boosts around.
5. energy management. Any fighting ele has to take this into consideration.

build examples:

ride the lightening, shock, aftershock, enervating charge, stoning, dash, blinding flash, rez. This build spikes hard & fast, while providing an exit. build problems: masive exaustion. No energy management.

Searing flames, glowing gaze, steam, armor of mist, shard storm, vapor blade, glyph of lesser energy, rez. build problem: slow damage, need vegy good teamwork.

Those are just some of the worst builds I've ever seen.

Skacore, you appear to be thinking about your ele as discrete from the rest of the build. This should not be the case. Agree with Shiz btw, Bsurge warder is the one to practise atm.

Hey man, nice to see people are getting into PvP!

My guess is you want to play Elem, so uhm well, I would try something like:

Blinding Surge
Lightning Orb
Gale (Please go easy on this, use it to snare or interupt, but it does kinda rape your energy if spammed)
Ward vs Melee
Glyph Of Lesser
Air Attune
Draw Conditions
Res Sig

Feel free to play around with it, only use Mending if you are r3++++++ though.

Thanks,
Program~
